Leaders Art Corner #2 – by Katarzyna Gerula

As we like to repeat, W Insight is not just about in-depth interviews. It is also about art. That’s why we publish these illustrations by our brilliant contributing artist Katarzyna Gerula.

Check out these profiles of incredible leaders, with incredible stories (and careers!)

Author of high-profile novels such as “The Shadow Of The Crescent Moon” and “The Runaways”, Fatima Bhutto comes from a famous political Bhutto dynasty. Despite her family’s history of political involvement, she has so far stayed away from making a strictly political career. Instead, she focuses on writing and expresses her views through media.

Famous mathematician responsible for calculating trajectories for Project Mercury and the Apollo Program, Katherine Johnson had over 30 years of experience at NASA. She was also of the first Black woman scientists at the organization. For her work, she received countless awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama in 2015. She died in 2020 at the age of 101.

Prominent oceanographer and explorer Sylvia Earle was “the first” many times. She was the first woman to reach the ocean floor, the first woman chief scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the leader of the first all-women aquanauts’ team in Tektite II. It’s almost impossible to mention all her achievements and awards, but these include Seattle Aquarium’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which Earle received as the first in history (obviously!).
